From Our Front Porch Looking In

Dear First Star I See Tonight,
::I wish I wasn't alone all weekend. It leaves me to think a lot. And come up with a lot more wishes.
::I wish I had money to get my hair done. It's awful right now.
::I wish I hadn't watched chick flicks all day. And cut cute pictures out of magazines. Now I want somebody to love me. I wish someone would come to my college, fall madly in love with me, and do anything to be with me. Maybe something bad would happen, or someone would sabotage our relationship...but, we would make it. And he would be a really good kisser.
::I wish I had a new car. I really need one. Kia has an official death date.
::I wish I didn't feel so inclined to eat that chocolate bar. I think it made me sick. Then I still ate dinner. I wish I would listen to my body.
::I wish I was tired. 'Cause I'm bored. And sleep makes time go by really fast. Like when we were coming back from Yellowstone this summer. I wanted to go to sleep really bad, because I was bored, and everyone got mad at me. It's really quite innocent.
::I wish I could afford to go to school this semester. I feel really good finally deciding what I want to do. Now I just want to go. That's OK. I'm prioritizing--something my dad says I need to work on.
::I wish I had some new brown boots to wear with my brown dress. I wish Female Taylor was still living with me next semester.
::I wish I did cool things like my roommate does. Her name is Kaylee. She runs marathons. And she arranges flowers. Like these: ::I really wish I would have filled up my water bottle and put it in the fridge. Now I'm thirsty.
::I wish I could see my brothers and sisters. I wish I could watch them run every race they run. I love it. I really love it 'cause they're so good at it. And 'cause they love it.
::I wish I could be more like my Grandma Harrison. She's always so happy. And she goes on a lot of dates.
::I wish I had enough money to travel the world and help little kids who don't have enough.

Think you can handle this, First Star? I'd appreciate it. I'll probably talk to you again tomorrow night.
Wishing,
Yours Truly

I almost backed out of going to see Tanya and go to the Toby Keith concert with her. Multiple times actually. When my tire blew I cried. It was the last straw. But, my excitement dragged me to Utah. Best decision. Ever. Seeing Tanya, seeing Toby made me feel complete.
I was terribly excited. I screamed when he sat up in the back of the Ford (I thought it was original, but apparently it's been done before), and sang every song. I got overly excited when he started singing "Beer For My Horses."
Luckily, Tanya was equally excited.
Pictured below: Tanya while they were announcing Toby. One of 5, 874 reason we're friends.

Despite the fact that two-single-Morm-girls made for the prime target for the drunken hicks, it was an amazing night. The fact that James Otto AND Trace Adkins opened for Mr. Keith obviously didn't dim my enthusiasm.

I miss Toby. And Tanya. Hopefully someday soon we'll reunite.

I tend to create really bad situations for myself.
Situations that I can't really get out of, not immediately anyway.
It takes place over a period of time. And in hind sight, it's all really, really stupid.
During these times I can't sleep.
It kind of makes me want to curl up on my bed with my body pillow and not move.
I really want to blame someone else. But, it's my own problem.
Why do I do stupid things, to create times like this?
I'm kind of scared that this time I can say I've learned my lesson. That means it's pretty bad.

It's all self-inflicted. Therein lies the problem.

I have this problem.
It started innocent enough. I ran out of Alias DVDs to watch and my roommate owns these. Innocent, right?

The funny thing is, I used to tease my friends about being addicted to this show. So, when I realized I had a problem (the first sign of recovery, I've heard) I text Brynnly and told him. Our conversation went like this:
Me: I did something very, very bad.
B: Uh-oh...
Me: I started watching Prison Break. Now I'm addicted.
B: GREAT show.
Me: If the brother dies, I'll die. (See how bad it's gotten?)
B: It only gets better.
Me: I'm going to stop.
B: You can try...
Me: It's like weed. (Not that I have any idea)
B: Better.

I'm sure if weed was as attractive as Wentworth Miller it would stand a chance.

Here's the real problem: I'm not even half way through Season One.

Dear Aunt, Uncle, and Adorable Cousins,
I have been thinking a lot about you guys. And missing you. A lot. I wish I could see you this weekend.
You always take us to do new, exciting things. But, you also have this way of making the boring, routine things fun. And you are always interested in my life. The lame life I lead.
You are all really, really pretty. I just don't understand how you're always so put together. Sometimes, I get this overwhelming urge to mess up your hair. Just a little. So then it would match mine.
And you're all hilarious. And you never forget my birthday. This year you even made me necklaces to match all my outfits (it really helps that it was multi-colored). Now, if only my head wasn't so big so it would fit around my neck...But, that's obviously a personal issue.

I miss you all.

Sometimes, when my family gets to see you I get really mad. I have to be stuck here. Pretending to be grown up, working, and going to school. I hate that I have to be grown up, because then I miss you growing up. And that's not fair.

Know that I think about you all the time. Hopefully I can see you soon.
Love you!

Preston has a rodeo. It's called: "That Famous Preston Night Rodeo." Not only is there a rodeo three nights in a row, but there is a parade and a carnival all three nights as well. The parade tends to be about the same (Except on Saturday night there is milk given out. One can only imagine how good ol' Andrea acts in this situation. hint: picture all seven Harrison children lined up down the block to gather as many milk jugs as possible, that's how she handles it). Surprisingly, we go to the parade every night, as does most of the town I'm sure. I was never really sure why...my mom hates parades, as do I, and it's the same thing. Then, this year it dawned on me, so I made a small attempt to capture what makes the Preston Parade, aka, the reason we go all three nights.
See the pictures below:

On the way to the parade
The need for an umbrella is necessary--in order to provide shade for oneself.
At least, that's what I thought....

until I saw this brilliant contraption. Beauty, ain't it?

The parade would not be complete without Preston's finest educator: Mr. Harrison. It dawned on me this year how regular he has become in the parades; this light bulb clicked when Josh (who always accompanies him), started reciting the line-up to me. Whether it's for school, or fair board, or supporting the governor (as he was this year, I mean, he kind of had to...the man was sleeping under our roof), Mr. Lance Harrison finds his way into the parade.
I think we were all grateful we got to witness these lovely ladies.
The grown man, with over grown facial hair, tinted red...riding the midget horse.

This lady, dressed in the fully bedazzled-cowgirl-get-up was well past 60. She had to be. Gorgeous.

The famous milk truck was driven by the local with the carefully trimmed curly blond mullet.

I never thought I'd see a horse with a fro, but I stood corrected.

And last, but certainly not least: the sign on this horse read, "The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a woman." Enough said. Take it or leave it. (I left it.)

This post is written with tender, loving care. It is not meant to offend, or belittle. I only want to show my appreciation, and love, for That Famous Preston Night Rodeo Parade and all those who grace us every year.
