From Our Front Porch Looking In

Tomorrow marks three years of marriage, parenting, school, and work. Four moves, three cars, two college degrees (one completed, one...in the process), and one crazy kid. Road trips, family reunions, and maybe even some arguments. Laughs (so, so many laughs), late night talks, stress, and tears. Thousands of loads of laundry, probably more diaper changes, late night McDonald's, and sports events watched.

I'm so glad I get to do life with this guy.  It's hard to believe it's  been three years, but in the same breath, it feels like it's been forever. Dust, you are my world. Thanks for letting me be part of yours.

^^facetime dates.^^

I've  been absent on this space. And, I'll be honest. We've had a hard time adjusting. While I'm not sure if it's because we just had it so darn good in our last home, or if it's been extra hard here - it's been rough. It may have something to do with out 600 square foot living space, too. So, sometimes I don't have a whole bunch to say. At least that I want to share publicly. But, I think all of this is to be expected. We've barely been here a month and a half; and it's a ginormous change.

Buuuuut.... we are getting there. As hard as day to day living can be, weekends and evening have been jam packed of exploring the areas around us. So much to do, in so little space, guys! We went to D.C. for the 4th of July (which we found an appropriate way to celebrate; to be documented soon!), made multiple trips to the city, and have spent plenty of time exploring the area surrounding us. (boston is in the near future, i believe!)D. is enjoying his new office, and as always is excelling in everything he does.

I don't know that we've ever considered ourselves tied to a particular area. But, I do know we are going to soak up our visits home; appreciation has been taken to a whole new level. Meanwhile, we will be exploring, and forever on the hunt for milk under four dollars a gallon, a Wal*Mart, and Jimmy John's; you know, a little piece of familiarity.

Also, Aunt Mogan comes Friday morning! We couldn't be more excited! (hint, hint to the rest of you! we've got ample room in our spacious apartment!)

Mid-June we took a picnic to Central Park (did i really just say that?). The weather was awesome, we wandered around, people watched (a favorite pastime - that has been taken to a whole new level in the city), and even ventured into the central park zoo. (here's a little video of our day out, if you feel so inclined.)

The day we had to take Grandma Patty and Papa John to the airport, D. took the day off, and we mourned their leaving by going to the Bronx Zoo. For Girlfriend's birthday, they gave us a family membership the the New York City zoos. I mean, amazing, right? Of course Abby ate it up. We was so excited to the the lion, monkeys, and the triceratops (we know it as the rhinoceros)!

After leaving the zoo, and a quick tour of Dustin's mission area in the Bronx, we stopped on the side of the road and volunteered Papa John as tribute to get some pizza for everyone; but, no ordinary pizza. (d. knew this place from his mission - and stopped there often, apparently. it still lived up to his standards.)

Dropping John and Patty off at the airport was tough. They literally saved our move, and eased the transition. I just don't think they understand how grateful we are. And, really, it was hard to say goodbye to our last piece of home. (this move has made me even more sentimental, watch out.)

We obviously didn't catch an overload of pictures. Whoops, but do have plenty of video. I can never find the right balance.

^^abby was really good at instructing grandpa when to take a picture^^

^^can you see patty trying to take a picture of girlfriend? she does a really good job obeying. can you tell?^^
^^cross bronx pizza, y'all (stolen from d's instagram and papa john's phone)^^

^^really, there are no words. saints, these two.^^

So, moving is chaotic, stressful, and it is inevitable something will go wrong. This, we knew. But, still - we (meaning dustin, while i sat nearby crying) planned, planned, stressed, and planned. Dustin had every little detail organized and planned. We arrived at the airport, where we were met by Papa John and Grandma Patty (have I mentioned they drove our car cross country for us?! and then, they thanked us! yeah, i'm still confused. but, we are eternally grateful.), and then we drove our overly packed car to New Cannan, CT where we planned to crash friends' house for the evening, pick up our junk from u haul the following day - and move into our apartment. Crazy, exhausting, but workable - and planned. Right? Wrong.

Our junk didn't make it (not for a few days, at least). I did not handle it well, but better than expected, I think. So, we improvised and caught a train into the city. Abby and I were a disaster, and exhausted. And, maybe a little overwhelmed. But, the hustle and bustle of the city is entertaining and captivating. We took the train to Grand Central Station, where we wandered around Times Square. After being back to the city since, I'll admit I don't love Times Square - a little out of my element (ha!). We ate from street vendors, and had a Mr. Softee! A dream come true, for me. I'm being completely serious.

I couldn't really tell you about the pictures below. I'm sure they are of nothing, really. I was trying to snap pictures, but keep the naked people out of the shots. (literally, naked.) So, here goes nothing.

^^grand central station^^

^^crepes from the street vendors! glamour, right there.^^
