From Our Front Porch Looking In

A few month ago, in the midst of deciding how we were going to see the family (since we just can't go as long as we'd originally planned), Dad threw out the idea of a cross country road trip. And, to our surprise (and his too!) everyone hopped on board. Grandma and Miranda jumped on board and the car load set out for our tiny two bedroom apartment.

What was supposed to be a three day trip quickly turned into an overnight trip. Yes, that's right, they made it from one end of the country to another only stopping for bathroom breaks. We were shocked and ecstatic. They were exhausted.

Saturday night everyone hunkered down, and after Abby calmed down, Evalyn got adjusted to so many people we all zonked (to be woken up bright and early by the overly excited three year old). We made it to church, a long walk on Sunday evening, and just chilled in general.

Monday (Brooke's birthday!) we headed to the beach where Abby had her first every swim lesson (we only made it to a few, due to the broken finger and overly spirited person Abby is). We followed it up with cake for the birthday girl.

^^so much fun to have some one on one time with Grandma-Great; my heart melts thinking of these special memories my girls got to make with this awesome lady.

Tuesday was much the same, only with Abby throwing a torrential fit and refusing swim lessons. This quickly became the norm.

Wednesday D. played tour guide in The City (his favorite thing!) to most of the family. Dragging them around to multiple sites (noteworthy: the 'Friends' apartment, and letting Brooke Lynn stroll on the Brooklyn Bridge - both on their bucket lists). Mom and I hung out with the little girls, shopping tidying, and thoroughly enjoying special time with my mom. Something I never should have taken for granted, and something I soak up every chance I get.

And, Thursday the whole clan took to The City as the tourists we are! (I just want to point out right here that total the family walked about 15 miles between the two days... and Grandma walked it all. That woman! She running on chocolate and dry cold cereal by the handful and can kick my butt with her energy level.)

^^Evie's first real visit to the city we love so much

^^rowing in Central Park

^^mid excersion planning; so hilariously accurate (bless you, Morg and your awesome camera timing! ps: all of the good quality pictures are from Morgan!).

^^we walked part of the high line for the first time and stumbled across Abby's (and Dustin's) heaven! Legos! So many Legos! Outside! Dragging her away was torture for everyone.

^^Abby declared Miranda her "favorite peoples" and by default Miranda became her pack horse

^^we made our way to insane Times Square to find food and people watch (culture shock for the little Idahoans! we found a table right near the painted naked ladies, to ensure they got thrown right into the whole experience).

^^to all those who doubted our Bob purchase - you've never been more wrong. we adore this ginormous thing!

^^and one last, hectic stop at Grand Central, just to say we did

After a couple of long days, and in preparation for a long weekend, we declared Friday a "chill day." We made good use of friends' pool and the super warm weather.

Early Saturday morning we trekked to Palmyra. We stopped by the temple, the Smith homes, the Sacred Grove, and ended up at the Hill Cumorah Pageant on the last night of the performance.

^^Morg! You rock!

^^Evalyn, of course, had everyone wrapped around and entwined in, her little fingers.

Saying goodbye to family when they leave here is particularly hard. Goodbyes are awful, and saying goodbye when my two worlds collide (providing the best of both worlds from me) is torture. All the tears, all the tears.

Lucky for us, Aunt Haylee stayed a couple of extra days. She followed us to the beach (twice!) helped so much with the girls, and made us even more sad the week was coming to an end when she left! Come back!

Dude. This kid is out of control. No matter what I tell her, she will not quit growing. So, here we are at the six month (and a week) mark. At her six month mark, Evie continues to be the light of our family. You think I'm being corny, I'm totally not. She is happy and smiley around every turn. Sister wakes up smiling!

Just over her 5.5 month mark Evalyn started pulling herself into standing position and crawling. And she's been a wild woman every since. Her knees must get sore on our hardwood floors, so she half mountain climbs, half crawls. It's hilarious. I think she is still long (when do you start using the word tall to describe a baby?) but don't go in for her check up until next month. Though long, she is our string bean, with her only excess weight carried on her thighs. Doesn't stop me from smothering her cheeks with kisses all day! She definitely burns ample calories making it her personal mission to destroy her sister's Lego projects everyday.

Evie's hair is coming in super blonde, like white blonde. Love it! She loves mangoes, sweet potatoes, avocado, and banana. She does not like apples. Yet (we are an apple loving family!). Just recently Evie has started to cry when I walk past her, the only time she really cries, begging me to give her some attention (not that she's lacking in love and attention). Her favorite pastimes include, blowing raspberries, watching herself in the mirror, and suckering people into attention with her irresistible grin and still huge blue eyes.

Evie remains the easiest baby around, despite her irregular sleep schedule (as in, some days she doesn't). It's so hard to enforce with her crazy tornado of a sister roaming around. This too will pass, or get figured out...or I just need to put my foot down. (but first, I potty train!)

This week Evie started babbling, "da-da." I'm in denial, though everyday it gets more and more clear. She thinks it's hilarious, he eats it up, and I want to cry. Can't one child be mine? (secretly, I melt.)

Anyway, a whole bunch of babbling to say - we super, duper, triple heart love our Evie Rose. She keeps us laughing and guessing. Watch out world, she's coming for you full force.

^^because, Abby can't not be included. heaven forbid.

July was eventful, to say the least. We found ourselves swimming in to-do lists, busy with friends (and family! but, more on that later.), swimming, playing, and the not so fun things too. Between it all, we didn't even have spare minutes to breathe. But, that's the beauty of summer, isn't it? Yet, somehow I got caught up in the busy and didn't document nearly enough.

^^$0.57 pancakes at IHOP, because the thought of cheap pancakes combined with not having to cook dinner made all my decisions that day

^^Abby has a game on my phone that she creates this girl, then can take pictures of her around the room. I found this on my phone later that day - apparently I'm in the running for world's best mother and didn't even know I  dosed off. So, there's that.

These next few pictures outline the longest 24 hours possible. I seriously questioned my sanity, and was sure I was going to lose it. I did melt down a few times. Poor Dustin (if only he had a nickel for every time someone said that...).

^^while at swim lessons (one of the four times she went), I got a call from our landlord asking if we had left water running because the salon downstairs was getting water leaking from the ceiling. Adamant that we hadn't left it running, I panicked an ran home to find water not leaking, but flooding, from the ceiling in our kitchen. Apparently the water heater upstairs had broken, flooding our apartment and the salon below us.

^^while the apartment was flooding, Evalyn had mastered crawling and was learning to pull herself up on things - at 5.5 months

^^a few hours later, Abby tripped and fell, breaking her finger (we found out the next morning when we took her into the orthopedist - pictured here).

July 3rd, we hit up the beach in the neighboring city (where we used to live) to see the fireworks. We camped out for five hours, ensuring our terrific spot, picnicked and played in the sand (watching a grown man dig a massive whole and call it a castle, proved quite entertaining). The first firework we heard, Abby melted down and we left - watching two or three fireworks from the car on our way out of the parking lot. Regardless, we felt pretty lucky to be able to wait on a beach. Seriously, living in beach down has us constantly pinching ourselves questioning reality.

The morning of the 4th we found ourselves right outside our front door watching the kids' parade, until Abby decided to hop in herself and finish the last leg (with dad doing the work, how else?). We met up with friends at the local park, around the corner from our apartment, and then made Navajo Tacos for dinner with neighbors - because I missed Richfield.

^^Sunday before church, because why not tack it on the end here?
